What Size Artificial Tree Do I Need?

What Size Artificial Tree Do I Need?

The right artificial tree fits both the height and width of its intended spot. Start with the room layout, then compare the tree’s overall height, widest branch spread, and base dimensions. A small pot does not necessarily mean a narrow canopy.

Measure Before Choosing a Tree

Ceiling Height

As a design starting point, leave at least 12 inches between the highest leaf and the ceiling. Include any height added by a decorative planter or support. Measure at the actual placement, especially beneath a sloping ceiling, and allow additional clearance near fans, lights, or other fixtures.

With an 8-foot ceiling, a finished display up to 7 feet retains 12 inches of clearance. A finished 8-foot display needs at least a 9-foot ceiling for the same gap. These are clearance examples, not requirements to fill the available height.

Branch Spread and Floor Space

Mark the tree’s listed width on the floor with a removable paper template. Check the space needed by leaves at different heights, not just the footprint of the pot. Keep walkways, door swings, furniture access, and vents unobstructed.

Planter and Finished Display

Compare the original base with any outer container you plan to use. Keep it securely supported, and do not rely on compressible packing material to raise it. Read What Should I Plant My Faux Tree In? for sizing and stability considerations.

Match the Silhouette to Your Room

Compact Spaces

A slender tree can work in a smaller corner if its branches do not crowd nearby furniture. For a tabletop or low accent, compare the 29-inch Faux Olive Tree with the surface available. Include the furniture height when judging the finished display.

Larger Rooms

A taller or fuller tree can complement a spacious room, but extra floor area does not remove the need to check clearance and stability. Consider the 8-foot Faux Olive Tree only where its actual finished height and spread fit comfortably.

View the Tree From Different Angles

Check the proposed location from the doorway and from seating areas. A tree that looks balanced from across the room may still interrupt a path or obscure a window up close. Do not assume every branch can be bent to fit; follow the individual product’s shaping instructions.
